Breathing Your Way to Motivation

Breathing correctly can be the difference between a stressful, tense day and a relaxing, productive one. When it comes to breathing, most people think there isn't much to it, but that's simply not true. After reading this article you will have the tools to use the common practice of breathing for much more than taking in air.

1. THE EFFECTS OF INCORRECT BREATHING
Breathing incorrectly not only makes it impossible to gain the benefits of correct breathing, but also brings with it negative consequences.

Several of these negative reactions include asthma, congestion, back, neck and headaches, decrease in adrenalin and exhaustion. These factors make it very difficult to
create or maintain motivation.

2. BREATHING EXERCISE #1
The first breathing exercise will help you to eliminate the bad habits of common breathers. To breath correctly, you must take deep breaths into your stomach. The common technique is to take short breaths into the chest. This causes tension in the upper body and restricts deep breathing.

Placing your hand on your stomach, take in a deep breath through your nose. Feel your stomach expand and your hand push out. As you exhale, push the air up with your diaphragm. To make the breathing even more relaxing, sit with your back flat against the wall or chair, with your ankles crossed and your feet flat on the floor.

Do this exercise ten times, giving each breath up to three seconds.

3. BREATHING EXERCISE #2
This time you are going to be using the same basic breathing techniques, but you'll be on your back. Elevate your feet with a pillow, your bed or on an exercise bench. With your feet above your head, take in a deep breath to your stomach, again placing your hand on it to feel the movements. After a three second inhale through the nose, exhale deeply, pushing the air with your diaphragm.

Doing this exercise while laying down has several benefits. It allows you to relax the upper body, shoulders in particular, and focus more on relieving stress and tension from your muscles. It also sends more blood to the upper body, benefiting your face and heart

Use these simple breathing techniques to eliminate stress and tension, and enjoy healthier, happier and motivated days.
